Proud Boy: Joseph Maness, of Greensboro NC

We’d like to introduce you to a Proud Boy in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is a Proud Boy with a history of criminal violence, fraud, and theft. He’s a proud white nationalist, who uses his retail business to enable a career-long hobby of being a cyber predator.

This is Joseph aka Joey aka “Psycho” Maness.

Joey is about to find out that his “White Privilege” Card has been declined.

Joey Maness is a proud Proud Boy. His Telegram bio reads: “Proud Western Chauvinist who refuses to apologize”. Here are a number of unapologetic selfies he shared, sporting Proud Boy attire and memorabilia.

We found Joey from his posts in Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio’s Telegram chat.

Maness came to our attention when he started posting about performing a man-in-the-middle computer attack.

Maness explains how he breaks into hotel network closets, and installs his own equipment. He sets up a hot spot with the same name as a real network, forcing devices to connect to his hot spot instead. He describes how he intercepts people’s connections to redirect any website request to some popular right wing disinformation sites.

Joey even posted a photo of some of the equipment he uses.

On August 5, Maness responded to a suggestion that someone attack against j6 suspect information website, with the intent to take it down. Joey responded, saying “working on it lol”. He added, “need to make sure it’s not hosted on gov stacks”.

Maness has recently been convicted for hacking. He was sentenced to probation in March 2019 for unauthorized computer access.

And it’s not the first time he’s been in trouble with the law. Maness has spent over 2 years in prison for a dizzying array of crimes over the years, including obtaining property under false pretenses, larceny, ten separate instances of cheating people, and an assault by strangulation.

Joseph Maness is also the owner and chief technician at Triad Computer Works in Greenboro NC.

He wasn’t too hard to find. Here’s a photo he shared from inside his shop.

Another easy clue to his identity, was this screenshot that he shared about a social account restriction notice. And a sloppy failed redaction of his name with the comment, “Oops”.

Here is Maness replying to a Nazi account, in moral support, with a post forwarded from an openly neo-Nazi Telegram channel.

Maness has made numerous extremely violent, misogynist, homophobic comments in the same chat. You can find more screens at the end of this blog post.

Joey’s computer business is a public facing business. He has access to people’s data, and every aspect of their overall security. With Covid-19, he is also trusted with people’s heath. This reviewer might be interested to know that he is very adamantly against the coronavirus vaccinations.
